CONCEPT

Founded in Kyoto in 1843, Kawashima Selkon Textiles combines traditional hand weaving techniques with modern machine weaving technology. For this exhibition four exquisitely crafted traditional fabrics have been selected from the company’s historic archives to create an installation of textile sculptures that represent the enchanting landscape of Kyoto. The fabrics represent the four cardinal directions: East – Seiryu (Blue Dragon), West – Byakko (White Tiger), North – Genbu (Black Turtle), South – Suzaku (Vermilion Bird).
