Mario Trimarchi

THE LITTA VARIATIONS / 4th Movement – Palazzo Litta, Corso Magenta 24, Milano

In collaboration with: De Castelli

Mario Trimarchi has designed the first motorcycle with copper bodywork for De Castelli. Putting typical aerodynamic curves aside, the fairing (shell) that conceals the inner engineering is like a visual interpretation of speed. Over time, with the natural oxidation of the copper, the object is aligned with the pace of the city, experienced in an eternally contemporary condition. Trimarchi has wrestled with how to design speed, and represent our fixation on the passage of time in relation to objects. ‘The motorcycle seems to move on its own, as if it were the result of a sequence of photo frames, somewhat cubist, in a way, but also seductive and coppery.

Albino Celato, CEO of De Castelli: ‘Metal, its workmanship, experimentation and research, have constituted the core business of my family for four generations. The possibility of applying the know-how of De Castelli in a field other than furniture has been a thrilling challenge, not least because of my personal passion for motorcycles.
