Born in Cremona in 1960, Laviani attends the International Professional Institute for the Arts and the Violin Making of Cremona and graduates in 1978. He latter attends the School of Architecture, at the Polytechnico of Milan where he graduats in 1986, while attending at the same time the private school of the Politecnico di Design Milan, from 1982 and graduats in 1984. He started working for Michele De Lucchi in 1983 and becomes a partner at Studio De Lucchi srl from 1986 to 1991, when he opens his own studio in Milan.
Lavini’s work mainly focuses on art direction for companies, industrial products and retail spaces. Since 1991, he has been the art director for Kartell and has collaborated with companies such as Flos, De Padova, Foscarini, Moroso, Society (Limonta), Emmemobili, ect, in the creation of the design concept for retails spaces, and set-ups, for fashion and furniture brands including: Cassina, Dolce and Gabbana, Dada – Molteni & C., Barovier & Toso, Piper-Heidsieck, Missoni, Citroen, Hansgrohe, Forum BR, Arezzo BR, RAI, Martini and Rossi, Swarovsky, Veuve Cliquot, Hennessy, Marazzi Group, La Rinascente, Lead, Ermenegildo Zegna, Renault, Haworth, Emilio Pucci, Zara, Habitat, etc. He has designed products for the following brands: Kartell, Foscarini, Dada – Molteni, Emmemobili, Hennessy, Moroso, Unopiu, Lema, Poltrona Frau, Fontana Arte, Fratelli Boffi, Richard Ginori, Laufen, Citco, Spider-Marazzi Group, Memphis, Driade, Panasonic, Pelikan, etc.
