Three exhibitions explore different perspectives on design and address the theme of how design will improve our future. The installation on the façade of the Circolo Filologico Milanese, designed by Zaven, makes you literally want to take a breath “towards the future”. Palazzo Visconti will offer an itinerary to discover the use of natural and durable materials in the world of design. This year’s edition will also present a set up inside the Istituto Marchiondi Spagliardi, a brutalist masterpiece by architect Vittoriano Viganò that for the first time will be opened to the public.

MoscaPartners, will present Breath, the site-specific work on the façade of the Circolo Filologico Milanese, designed by studio Zaven.
The building creates a path that connects the different exhibitions emphasizing the collaboration between companies and creatives.
View MoreZaven is a Venice-based design studio founded in 2008 by Enrica Cavarzan and Marco Zavagno They operate at the crossroads of product design, graphic design, interior design and art direction. For Zaven, design is an analytical process: each project is driven by extensive research taking form in the final product. Whether it is an object of everyday use or a visual communication project, Zaven always aims for formal clarity. The studio has initiated numerous collaborations with creatives from different contexts and holds classes and workshops in various universities, academies and design schools, while in latests year, the projects of the studio as been exhibited in Museums and exhibition worldwide.
Among the exhibitors who will take part in the event Design Variations 2023 will include companies from Italy and abroad, emerging stratups and young talents that will offer products made from innovative, renewable, durable materials. A example will be associations focused on the recovery and reuse of glass and promoting the use of natural materials such as feather and durable materials such as marble. Other entities will propose low-impact production technologies and, more generally general, design solutions that respect the environment and are based on the principle of circular economy.
The works produced over the years (architectural models and short videos) from Michele De Lucchi’s and Andrea Branzi’s master course at the Milan Polytechnic, selected for this exhibition, will be scattered inside the Marchiondi Spagliardi Institute, along a specially designed path to allow visitors to safely admire the reformatory designed in 1954 by architect Vittoriano Viganò. In a series of installations, each dedicated to a different theme, models and videos will appear as visions, real seeds for the education of the future. The brutalist masterpiece by architect Vittoriano Viganò opens for the first time to the world of international design and architecture.
