MOSCAPARTNERS PRESENTS REFORMING FUTURE IN A NEW LOCATION FOR DESIGN VARIATIONS 2023. OPEN FROM 20th to 22nd APRIL, THE EXHIBITION WILL TAKE PLACE IN A RARE EXAMPLE OF ITALIAN BRUTALIST ARCHITECTURE, THE ISTITUTO MARCHIONDI SPAGLIARDI, OPEN FOR THE FIRST TIME TO THE AUDIENCE OF MILAN DESIGN WEEK.
THIS VENUE IS BEING USED THANKS TO A PROJECT BY MILAN CITY COUNCIL INTENDED TO REUSE ABANDONED PUBLIC SPACES.
The Istituto Marchiondi Spagliardi, built in the 1950s in Baggio and long used as a juvenile reform school, is a rare example of Italian Brutalist architecture designed by the architect Vittoriano Viganò. With this event the building, that was closed in the 1970s and soon fell into a state of abandonment, will once again be accessible to the international architecture and design public thanks to the collaboration between MoscaPartners and Milan City Coucil. The event consists in guided tours of the Istituto Marchiondi’s architectural structure, organized in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano and the GAe Engineering company. Reforming Future, strongly desired by Valerio Castelli, is now a part of Design Variations 2023 and showcases the projects created during the master’s course led by Michele De Lucchi and Andrea Branzi at the Politecnico di Milano School of Design. The exhibition focuses on the explorative nature of the course led by the two architects in collaboration with Francesca Balena Arista, Marco De Santi, and Mario Greco, which over the years has tackled important anthropological themes.
